Truck regulation is a politically popular topic these days. With the explosion of commercial truck traffic and many stories of catastrophic accidents on the highways. Accidents involving large vehicles usually end in great destruction and fatalities.

Over the past several years federal regulation of the trucking industry has tightened, and fatality accidents have actually decreased, in relation to freight miles driven. But why then do so so many menacing trucks seem to be still on the road?

According to the Ohio Department of Safety, there are more than 200 deaths each year in the U.S. associated with riding in the cargo area of pickup trucks. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that pickup truck occupants are three times more likely to be involved in rollover crashes than in other types of vehicles. The largest number of vehicle fatalities and injuries are caused by rollover crashes.

Overweight and overloaded trucks pose a very serious danger on our nation’s roadways. When a truck has more weight than it can safely carry, stopping is much more difficult, and the truck is much more likely to get out of control when swerving to avoid a collision or an animal in the road.

Overloaded trucks can damage the brake and steering system of the truck. An overweight truck is an accident waiting to happen, and when trucks are involved in accidents, the results can be catastrophic and deadly due to their massive size and weight.
