When choosing a driving instructor it is of great important that you make sure your driving instructor is legal.

Teaching someone to pass the UK driving test may seem easy but it is not. It is a skilled job that is best left to qualified professionals. In fact is is illegal for unapproved instructors to receive payment for driving tuition.

Money motivates most crime. This is certainly true of bogus driving instructors who can earn up to £25 per an hour for their deceptions.

By UK law, all correctly licensed driving instructors have to display an appropriate licence clearly in the windscreens of their instruction car or the pupil’s own car if using it for lessons. Failure to do so can result in a fine of up to ?1000.

USING a mobile phone while driving became an endorsable offence in the UK at the end of February 2007 and GEM Motoring Assist – formerly The Guild of Experienced Motorists - (GEM), that is concerned for the safety of all road users, has issued a useful list of things you can and cannot do while driving a vehicle.

It says that apart from using a phone that is not fitted with a ‘hands free’ device motorists need to remember that they cannot eat or drink while at the wheel. The driver can smoke, but lighting the cigarette while on the move can prove a challenge as if both hands are taken off the steering wheel the driver may not be considered to be in proper control of the vehicle.

Six new driving laws being introduced in 2008 will certainly help drivers employ more defensive driving techniques when on the roads. Relating to hands-free driving, the laws will target cell phones, text messaging and teens.

To those drivers possessing even a small modicum of common sense, the concept of text messaging and speaking on a hand held cell phone whilst driving seems to beggar belief. As one of the key defensive driving techniques is to “avoid distractions” whilst driving, trying to text message and drive at the same time is simply impossible.
