Defensive Driving Basics

According to the Ohio Department of Safety, there are more than 200 deaths each year in the U.S. associated with riding in the cargo area of pickup trucks. I really love my dogs and I’m sure you love yours. It’s an old joke that men make disparaging comments about women drivers, and it’s a fact that most comedy comes from truth - but is there truth in the notion that men are better drivers than women? Not according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration!

According to a report they released in 2004, male drivers were involved in 1,369,000 more property-damage incidents, 432,000 crashes without fatalities, and 27,000 more accidents with fatalities than their female counterparts. When choosing a driving instructor it is of great important that you make sure your driving instructor is legal.

Teaching someone to pass the UK driving test may seem easy but it is not. It is a skilled job that is best left to qualified professionals. In fact is is illegal for unapproved instructors to receive payment for driving tuition.

Money motivates most crime. This is certainly true of bogus driving instructors who can earn up to £25 per an hour for their deceptions.

By UK law, all correctly licensed driving instructors have to display an appropriate licence clearly in the windscreens of their instruction car or the pupil’s own car if using it for lessons. Failure to do so can result in a fine of up to ?1000.

It can also be quite frightening to venture out in pouring rain or blustering winds for new, young drivers.

It is a great idea to work yourself into driving gradually. Perhaps you could get a friend or family member that has a few years of driving under their belt to sit with you for the first couple of road excursions. Make sure that you don’t plan any long, gruelling cross country trips straight away. Also, stick to minor roads and just get used to being among other traffic and master being in full control of your vehicle.
